Dramatic Measures

Picture

My observations and insights culled from nearly 25 years' experience as a director of
plays, operas, and musicals. Unique advice on acting, directing, and what it takes
to make it in the entertainment industry, as well as valuable lessons for life beyond
   the stage.

How To Mess with Others For Their Own Good

My satirical take on self-help books, which promise the moon but do little other than take up space on your book shelves. The advice I offer is at least practical, easy to use and provocatively outrageous.

Greater Sarasota: from shorelines to skylines

Picture

A coffee table book introducing vistors to Sarasota, Florida, covering the town's history, neighborhoods, business oportunties, tourist venues, and arts and cultural attractions.  The book was commissioned by the Chamber of Commerce. I did the research and wrote the text for the various chapters. Sponsors provided their own advertorials.

In one of my former lives, when I taught English and anything that worked to high school students, I participated for three summers in the Yale-New Haven Teacher's Institute (1978-80). We studied with professors from the university and wrote our own curriculum guides. It was lots of fun, and the best part: We got paid for it! For me, it marked a transition between teaching and becoming a theater director, while leaving behind the turgid academic writing style I had developed in college.
